Explain the underlying purpose of the worlds fairs? ?
Most generally, the world's fairs have been organized to allow people to see interesting aspects of other countries and promote understanding. The specific type of understanding has changed somewhat through the years.
Until 1938, countries mostly wanted to show the interesting new technologies they had developed.
Then, until 1987, exhibits were mostly cultural.
Since then, nations have focused their displays on helping people understand them and present themselves as progressive, tolerant powers.
