San Fran
Hey guys, How long would it take to drive to the grand canyon from San Fran? Any route recommendation?

I am planning to drive from LA to San Fran then from San Fran to GC possibly via Las Vegas?

How long would these sections take?

I appreciate any info from first hand experience! Thanks so much

Hey Nick,
Do you want to go to the North Rim or the South Rim of the Grand Canyon? Your answer will greatly affect your route. It is literally hundreds of miles difference because of the size of the GC.

If you go from SF to LV it is about a 9 hour drive (straight through). It is roughly 600 miles.
Then, if you go to the North Rim, that is about 3 hours to Fredonia, AZ which is the closest town to the North Rim.

If you go to the South Rim it is about 4 hours to Flagstaff, AZ from Las Vegas.

It is about 220 miles from the North Rim to the South Rim, driving. It is only about 11 miles by helicopter!!

If you can't do both I would recommend the North Rim. It is by far my favorite and much less crowded than the touristy South Rim. But check it out on the internet and do some research to see which one you would like.

Good luck and have a great time. The Grand Canyon is one of the neatest places on the earth!

PS: If you have some time and want to go to a very cool place, check out the Havasupai Indian reservation at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. What an adventure and the sights are incredible. They have waterfalls that will blow your mind!
