How have airplanes been a positive and a negative to the world?
I want to know what people think is positive and negative towrads the world. THX!!!!
Aviation has been one of the most important parts of world history. Since ancient times, man has always dreamed of flight. Greek mythology idolozed men who could fly as gods, giving them the sense of accomplishement. If you ask any pilot, they would tell you that earning a pilot's license is one of the greatest personal accomplishments they have ever earned.
Ever since the very first flight by Wilbur and Orville Wright, airplanes have played a major part in the way we live today. They have brought the world closer in ways you don't normally think of. Over 60% of employee jobs are either indirectly or directly related to aviation. Aircraft manufacturing requires a lot of materials and labor, giving each of those individuals (both aircraft manufacturers and material company employees) a job. Airports also make up for much of those jobs both in services and product sales.
Airplanes have allowed man to research in ways never before possible. NOAA aircraft routinely fly through hurricanes giving back valuable data. Aircraft are the forerunners for space exploration. They also allow us to gather geographical data much faster than any other method.
They have brought the world much closer to the individual. Trips that used to take days and even months can now be completed in a couple of hours. People can travel to places they never would have seen without airplanes.
One of the more unique benefits of aviation is based in my hometown of Knoxville, TN, USA. A group called Remote Area Medical uses aircraft in disaster relief and medical aid in poverty-stricken countries. Airplanes allow volunteers to travel to the places they are need quickly and efficiently.
A few people have noted that airplanes "rain death" upon people during wartime. I believe anything good can be used the wrong way. I don't think the airplane has had a negative impact on the world, its the people who choose to use them for bad that have the negative impact.
Others have noted that aircraft have damaged the environment. While this is true for past aircraft, manufacturers have noted this and have been making significant progress towards overcoming this. The GE90 engine burns significantly less fuel than its counterparts with much lower emissions.
I firmly believe that aviation has had a very positive impact on the world.
