What are your opinions on building the mosque near ground zero?
I have heard people say that it's a victory mosque and and that it's disrespectful. I have heard other people say that they should feel free to worship as they please and I agree with that but I can't help but think that this is disrespectful to build it so close to ground zero. From two blocks away you will be able to hear the music and chanting coming from the mosque. Isn't that eerie? What are your opinions on this?
I'm a Christian and I don't see anything wrong with building the mosque. There are no laws against it. Also, they are not the ones who committed the crime. That's just like if a person of a certain race killed people in a building, then people of that same race moved into the building across the street. Are we going to blame someone for a crime they did not commit? I mean, what will happen if a mosque is built there? Will people die?
I mean, I think the president said it best. This country supports freedom of religion. If we said we are at war with all Muslims, then that is one thing. But we say that we are at war with TERRORISTS. If ALL Muslims are the true evil, then why haven't people written to the members of Congress to kick them out of the country?
Why haven't they done this? Well, because they don't really believe it. They are just using the Muslims as scapegoats for the country's struggles. Terrorists who happened to be Muslim sent planes into the buildings. I mean, we've had terrorists who were white (Timothy McVeigh--The Oklahoma City Bomber, also the Unabomber) and no one has ever suggested that white people shouldn't build anything near the site of the bombing.
Muslims are Americans too. These aren't people from a foreign country, they are citizens and were either born here or moved here. I think it's a shame how they're being treated. I personally think that the founding fathers and mothers of this country would roll over in their graves in shock when they saw that people of other faiths were being oppressed. They fled from religious persecution in Britain and came to America. THEY were also called terrorists by England. I'm sure no one sides with England on this, right?
No one will hear the chants, Sweetie, because the door will be closed. And it won't be disrespectful to Ground Zero because Muslims also died on 9/11 and it was due to a similar intolerance of religious differences.
They should be allowed to worship as they please as long as they aren't breaking any laws, hurting anybody, being racist, being sexist, etc. The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. Also, it is their private property, so I feel that they have the right to build on that site if they wish to.
