roadside camping in Alaska?
Anyone know if you can camp, free, on the road from Anchorage to Denali Natl Park?
TIA
Last year we spent the night on the Talkeetna Spur, which is close to halfway between the two. We were the only rig there and there were no signs saying we couldn't. This was a nice, deep pullout, with a wonderful veiw of Denali, Mt. McKinley.
Don't forget to go into Talkeetna. You'll wonder why you did, but then you'll be glad you made the trip. It's a quaint little tourist trap type town. At least they aren't as bad as Florida's tourist traps, yet.
Our general rule was: if a pullout or rest stop was far enough from the road to eliminate road noise and there were no signs, we would park. We saw some fool parked along the Turnagain Arm, along side a cliff and a sign saying, "Watch for falling rocks". Now we would shy away from a site like that.
Enjoy!
