in the silence of the lambs, why does Buffalo Bill talk to that girl in 3rd person?
I know this might be a stupid question, but it is bugging me. When Buffalo Bill says; 'It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.' why does he refer to her in the 3rd person? is there a specific reason, or is he just being weird?
Also, just to add to what idontgetit was saying, if you remember during the movie the mom is being interviewed, and during the interview she kept saying her daughter's name, and the FBI agents were commenting on the fact that her saying her daughter's name over & over personalizes her more to Buffalo Bill and saying that if he sees her more as a person than as an object, it's harder to cut her up. Him using third person "it" was intended to have the opposite effect, and make it easier for him to do what he was planning to do to her.
