Western belt buckles:
These are by far the most popular form of custom belt buckle. These all have several recurring symbol of the American old west. Primarily the revolver, the sheriff star, the spur, Native American themes, the cowboy hat, plus several associated animals such as the horse, the eagle and the longhorn bull. These are so popular because they vary from the bold to the wildly outlandish in style and represent some the coolest things in the world to sport on one's person (for me, it's the many types of guns that are most enticing). Rhinestone buckles:
These buckles apply to every other category of custom belt buckle as they aren't restricted to specific symbols or images; they are just sparkly versions of a buckle. I can see some guys out there being thrown off by the word sparkly but I can assure you these aren't just for the ladies. These are closely associated with the hip-hop style in America and many of these designs know no gender. I have scoured the net and discovered rhinestone buckles in the form of skulls, sports logos, and custom name belt buckles that are completely uni-sex as well.
Novelty belt buckles:
These tend to arouse the most interest in people as they are comprised of some unbelievable designs and inventions. I couldn't begin to show you the variety involved in this sub category as it would take another three articles to do so but I will say that if you are looking for some fun and a definite conversation point, these buckles are the ones to wear. You can get belt buckle lighters and knives, spinner belt buckles that move freely, snakes, batman symbols, Darth Vader's head, the transformers logo, naked ladies, photographs and several thousand more that teem with originality and genius. A kind warning with these: keep to a spending limit as they may have you emptying out your wallet!
