The Shanghai World Expo, Continued
I hope many of you are planning to visit Shanghai for the upcoming expo. With over 70 million expected visitors, some irritating but necessary guidelines are in placed to help facilitate such a large event. The expo site is divided into five zones; A, B, C, D, E with two zones on the Puxi side and three on the Pudong side. So what are some of the details?
The expo will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight; while the pavilions will open at 9:30 a.m until 10:30 p.m. Visitors are not allowed into the expo site after 9 p.m. If you only have one evening to spare, a discount ticket can be purchased for 90 RMB and it's valid from 5 p.m. till closing.
What is the most convenient way to get to the expo? That really depends on where you are coming from. Basically, there are four modes of transportation; subway, taxi, bus and private vehicles. But be aware that private vehicles and regular taxis are not allowed anywhere near the expo site during operational hours. Finding a parking will be a very challenging task. Only permitted vehicles and the 4,000 expo taxis are allowed to enter freely. Taking a bus is more economical option and over 90 bus routes service the expo sites. But when you consider the amount of heavy traffic above ground, taking the subway is probably the most convenient. You can take line 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and line 13, which is designated for the expo.
As previously mentioned, the expo site is equally divided up into five distinctive zones. Zone A will be hosting the China Pavilion and other Asian countries, excluding Southeast Asian nations. Zone B will be hosting pavilions from Southeast Asian, Oceania countries. It also makes room for pavilions from international organizations, and other theme based pavilions. Zone C, the third zone on the Pudong side, hosts the African, American and European national pavilions. There is also a large amusement park built near the entrance. Zone D and E are located on the opposite side of the river. Zone D will host some corporate pavilions and make space for outdoor exhibitions and cultural exchange area. Zone E will be hosting stand-alone corporate pavilions, the Urban Civilization, Exploration, and Best Practices pavilions.
The last important thing, which is also the most overlooked, is the fact the reservation system implemented for the expo. Did you know that you can reserve a spot for visiting a specific pavilion? You are allowed to reserve as an individual once you have entered the expo site, or you can make the reservation in-advance as a group on the expo site. Without the reservation, you might have to wait up to an hour for the opportunity to see the more popular pavilions, such as the China or the U.K. pavilion. When you are making the reservation, you must have your ticket present and then a small slip will be given to you. Unfortunately, you are only allowed to do this for one pavilion per day, per individual.
If you have any other concerns, questions, or if you need more information on planning for the expo, please send me an e-mail at aaron@csandcm.com. Or visit our company website at www.csandcm.com for more information.
